Terms of Service

Introduction

Niimport is a data donation service operated at Aalto University. It allows you to donate your data for academic research. By using Niimport, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

As a participant, you understand that your data will be used for academic research as described in the Privacy Notice.

Researchers agree to use the donated data solely for research purposes and in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines, following research plans pre-reviewed by the Aalto University research ethics committee.

This service downloads data you authorize from third-party platforms (such as Google and TikTok) using their official data portability APIs. It processes the data according to the study configuration, and makes it available to the researcher. It is not a long-term data store.

Eligibility

Niimport is available to participants in specific studies conducted by Aalto University researchers.

If you are under the age of 15, a guardian must separately review the consent forms and information with the researchers.

Data Use and Restrictions

Permitted Uses: Researchers may use participant data only for academic research as stated in the study's research plan.

Prohibited Uses: Researchers may not commercially exploit, sell, or redistribute donated data, or use the data for any purpose beyond those stated in the research plan.

Data Storage & Retention

Niimport only stores data as long as needed for processing and handing it over to researchers. Your donated data may contain identifying information. The service does not remove identifiers. It is the researcher's responsibility to handle identifiers appropriately, following their study's data management plan.

The Privacy Notice covers data protection measures, retention periods, and deletion procedures.

Participant Withdrawal

You can revoke a donation at any time via your donation page. Revocation immediately deletes all associated data and OAuth tokens from this service and removes access to the third-party platform.

Researchers may have downloaded data before you revoke access. Retention and deletion of downloaded copies is governed by the study's data management plan.

Researcher Obligations

Researchers agree to only process data in accordance with a research plan reviewed by the Aalto University research ethics committee. They will cooperate with institutional oversight and data auditing. Researchers must comply with all applicable data protection regulations, including GDPR and Finnish data protection law.

Compliance and Enforcement

Researchers must follow these terms and any applicable legal and research integrity requirements. Violations may result in revocation of access or termination of data collection.
